Gratitude to the outgoing Trustees of 2021

Our deep gratitude to the Berkeley Foundation Trustees below, whose tremendous generosity of time, expertise, ambassadorship, and philanthropic leadership have propelled UC Berkeley forward and made a lasting impact on Berkeley’s students, staff, and faculty for generations to come.

Trustee Stuart N. Bernstein (BS ’85) is concluding his service after nine years as a Trustee of the Foundation. Throughout his Wall Street career, Stuart has maintained strong ties to Berkeley and the Haas Business School, and initiated Goldman Sachs’s program to actively recruit on campus. He and his wife, Marcella, are Builders of Berkeley and have been generous supporters of clean technology endeavors at Haas, including the Haas Cleantech to Market program for which Stuart also serves as an advisor. In addition to his dedicated work on behalf of Haas and its students, Stuart has been deeply engaged with the Chancellor’s Committee on Jewish Student Life and Campus Climate, helping to highlight the issue of anti-semitism and how Jewish students have experienced it on campus. Thank you, Stuart, for your commitment to helping Berkeley, its students, and new endeavors thrive.

Trustee David E. Kepler (BS ’75) is completing twelve years of service as a Trustee of the UC Berkeley Foundation. Dave has been a dedicated partner with the College of Chemistry and its mission to advance knowledge in chemistry and biochemistry through research and teaching. He established the David Kepler Faculty Support Fund in the College of Chemistry, supports the chemistry undergraduate program, and has been a generous supporter of the New Frontiers Fund for Heathcock Hall. He has also been a supporter of the Chancellor’s Cal Fund and Berkeley’s basic needs efforts. Dave has made a significant impact on the lives of students at UC Berkeley, from advancing their access to healthy food to developing cutting-edge facilities in which they can learn, interact, and conduct research. Thank you, Dave, for your friendship to Berkeley.

Trustee Thomas K. McKissick (BA ’84) is completing his fourth term as a Trustee of the Foundation. Tom has been an engaged leader in Southern California outreach efforts and previously served as a member of the Thanks To Berkeley SoCal Campaign Celebration Honorary Committee. He served as a member of the Class of 1984 Reunion Committee, and has been a dedicated and generous donor to the Class of 1984 scholarship fund. Tom was an undergraduate student-athlete, and he has played a vital role supporting Cal athletics, including football, baseball, men’s golf, and women’s lacrosse. Thank you, Tom, for your dedicated support.
