Berkeley Travels to Shanghai, China

This past November, the Chancellor, along with a Berkeley contingent, traveled to Shanghai to attend a series of events highlighting the best of Berkeley. We kicked off the weekend with an international academic forum featuring our renowned faculty. The next day, fans cheered for Berkeley at the Cal vs. Yale basketball game, and then danced the evening away at an elegant gala with more than 300 guests. The gala on Saturday night drew a large crowd of alumni from many parts of Asia and some of our own Foundation trustees, including Nadine Tang, Nancy Lusk, Weijie Yun, Charles Huang and his wife Lillian, and Kai Huang and his wife Samantha. There was a palpable sense of excitement about meeting the new Chancellor, and being photographed with her and each other. Many spoke about how pleased they were to have a Cal presence in Asia, and hoped that there would be annual gatherings alternating between Shanghai and Hong Kong. It was clear that all the guests were delighted to be connecting with old and new friends.
